Are 18 or 20-inch wheels better for off road?
18″ rims would be better off-road with more ability to air down. They’d also probably provide a better on-road ride. 20″ rims would provide a stiffer sidewall for towing and I like the way they look more than 18 inchers. Towing happens 6-10 times a year.
Can I replace 18 wheels with 20 wheels?
When swapping from an 18-inch wheel to a 20-inch, a tire with a smaller sidewall will be required. This smaller sidewall will provide your vehicle with improved handling characteristics but will also come at the cost of a harsher ride.
Why are 18-inch wheels better?
18-Inch Tires Offer Improved Ride Comfort Larger wheels tend to have lower-profile tires, achieved by using a smaller sidewall. This means that there is less air in the tire, providing less of a cushion against the road.
Can I put 20 rims on my car?
Yes you can put 20 inch rims on your vehicle but with limitations. This will depend on how wide the rims and tires will be and also if the tires will clear the struts and suspension parts when driving and turning.
Are larger wheels more efficient?
For example, larger tires decrease your fuel economy because they are heavier, while smaller tires increase fuel efficiency. Bigger tires also have a higher rolling resistance than smaller tires which means they require more resistance and effort to get them rolling. Tire treads can also impact your fuel economy.
Do bigger rims affect ride quality?
As a general rule, bigger wheels result in a rougher ride. Switching to a smaller wheel and a thicker tire can give you a smoother ride without any major modifications to your car. When changing the car’s original wheels and tires, the general rule of thumb is that you can go up or down by one inch.

What size wheel is best for off-roading?
For off-road performance, we prefer to stick to the rule of thumb of running a wheel diameter no bigger than half the tire height. That typically means 15 or 16-inch wheels for 33s and 17-inch wheels for 35s or so. If you want sufficient sidewall flex on the trail, stay away from lower-profile tires.
