Can HyCoSy cause infection?

There is a small chance that you may get a uterine infection after this procedure – the infection risk due to the procedure is very small. Nationally it is approximately 1 in 100 cases.

How long does pain last after HyCoSy?

Abdominal cramping similar to period pains. This can be controlled with anti- inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen and Nurofen. If you are unable to take anti- inflammatory then Paracetamol may be taken. Pain should not last more than 48 hours following the procedure.

Is HSG life threatening?

HSG is considered a very safe procedure. However, there is a set of recognized complications, some serious, which occur less than 1% of the time. Infection – The most common serious problem with HSG is pelvic infection.

Is it normal to bleed after HyCoSy?

It is NORMAL for you to experience the following: Abdominal cramping for up to an hour following the procedure. Light bleeding for 3-4 days, which should be controlled by wearing a panty-liner or pad. Please do not use a tampon (to minimise the risk of infection)

How long does bleeding last after HyCoSy?

You may experience some light bleeding after the procedure, usually lasting no longer than 24 hours. If this occurs, we recommend you use a sanitary towel as opposed to a tampon. Can HyCoSy detect endometriosis?

The HyCoSy is unable to tell us whether you have adhesions (scar tissue) around your fallopian tubes or endometriosis. This can only be diagnosed by laparoscopy. If the contrast medium is not seen to pass though one or both of your tubes, this may indicate a blockage.

Can HyCoSy improve fertility?

Our study demonstrated that some infertile women could succeed in spontaneous conception after 4D-HyCoSy and their conception rates could be up to 40.9%. The mean conception time was (8.8 ± 0.3) months within a year after 4D-HyCoSy.

Can you do a HyCoSy on your period?

The best time to perform a HyCoSy is approximately day 8 to day 18 of a regular 28-day (monthly) menstrual cycle (the first day of your period is counted as day 1). If you do not have regular periods please phone the Centre for advice. We are not able to do the examination if you are still bleeding from your period.
