In Pokemon X and Y, you will only be able to trade Pokemon directly between the X and Y versions. However, Pokemon can still be transferred one way all the way back from Generation three. Generation five Pokemon can be transferred to Generation six games using the Poke Transporter and Pokemon Bank 3DS apps.
