Does Civil Air Patrol pay for flight training?
CAP does not normally provide primary flight training for members. That said, we do have a lot of members who are also Certified Flight Instructors and often willing to provide training to members at reduced rates. We have several scholarships that help CAP Cadets obtain a pilot’s license.

Does Civil Air Patrol count as military service?
The Civil Air Patrol consists of cadets, ages 12 to 20 years old, and senior members who are 18 and older. All members wear uniforms as part of their Civil Air Patrol duties, but the agency is not a branch of military service.
Is Civil Air Patrol hard?
“Sometimes folks think you have to have lots of hours and it’s really tough to get into,” he said. “It’s really not.” Pilots need about 200 hours PIC to be able to start flying missions “beyond just transportation stuff,” he reports. Once involved in CAP, the volunteer pilots are encouraged to continue their training.

What type of aircraft do cadets fly? During routine cadet orientation flights and with few exceptions, most cadets will fly in a CAP-owned single-engine Cessna, or a glider. During special events, cadets may be eligible for orientation flights aboard military aircraft, primarily cargo aircraft, tankers, or helicopters.
What is level1 cap?
The Level I, or Onboarding, is the first of CAP’s five Education and Training Program levels. The materials in Level I provide the new senior member with the information required to participate actively in CAP.
Do you salute Civil Air Patrol officers?
It is customary for CAP members to salute these international officers as a sign of goodwill. When in doubt, salute. Anyone may render a salute at any time if they believe one is warranted. The salute originated in the age of chivalry.
Can Civil Air Patrol retire?
Generally, a member must be in good standing and have 20 years of service as a senior member in CAP to be eligible for retirement. Members who are being considered for demotion or termination may not retire.
Is Civil Air Patrol a good way to build hours?
It’s a great way to build up flight hours while serving the local community. Cadets have the opportunity to apply for CAP flight academies for instruction in powered aircraft, gliders, hot air balloons, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
How do you rank up in Civil Air Patrol?
To progress, cadets must (1) participate actively; (2) pass a written leadership test; (3) pass a written aerospace test; (4) pass a physical fitness test; (5) participate in character development forums; and most of all (6) demonstrate they have the maturity to accept increased responsibility.
